GetSet 2025 Recap: Born for This
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Rediscovering Identity. Making a Choice. Leaving a Legacy.
What do Jason Bourne and a Christian young adult retreat have in common? At first glance, maybe not much. But this year’s GetSet 2025 retreat leaned into the deeper parallels from the Bourne film series: a man with questions about his identity, a call to take action, and a mission that changes everything.
This year’s theme, “Born for This”, was more than a clever title. It reminded us that, like Bourne, we were each created for something more. We may feel unsure of who we are or what we’re called to, but God has written a purpose into our very design; a mission rooted not in espionage, but in faith, love, and transformation.
For one powerful weekend, over a hundred young adults gathered to explore their God-given identity, make bold decisions in faith, and take steps to live a legacy that points others to Christ.
Talk 1 – Born Identity (Speaker: David Graham)
David Graham kicked off the weekend by diving into our core identity as followers of Christ. With references from Genesis 1, Revelation 21, and Matthew 28, he helped us understand that our purpose isn't something we have to invent, it's something we were designed for.
We’re created in God’s image to reflect His character and steward His world. But more than that, we’re created for a relationship with Him. Our identity is not in what we do or how we perform, but in who we belong to.
David walked us through the biblical relationship between faith and works. Drawing from James 2, Ephesians 2, and Galatians 6, he clarified that we don’t earn salvation through good deeds, we respond to God’s gift of grace with lives that bear fruit. If our faith is alive, it will naturally produce action.
Reflection Questions:
Am I living like someone created in God’s image?
What kind of fruit is my life bearing?
How often am I pausing to stay rooted in Christ?
Talk 2 – Born Ultimatum (Speaker: Rebeca Sastre)
Rebeca Sastre brought a strong and sobering message on Saturday: our walk with God demands a decision. It’s not enough to coast through faith; we must respond. Referencing Isaiah 6:8, Deuteronomy 30, and Romans 6:23, Rebeca highlighted the Gospel as both a gift and a call to action.
Every one of us faces an ultimatum: Will we live for Christ or continue trying to rule our own lives? As Rebeca put it, “None of us will wake up in Heaven wondering how we got there.” Our daily decisions reveal our allegiance, whether to ourselves or to our Savior.
This talk challenged attendees to lay down control in key areas like relationships, money, work, and their future, and to trust God even when the road looks costly. Because though the Christian life carries a cross, it also offers unmatched gain: union with God now, and eternal life ahead.
Reflection Questions:
Where am I still trying to be in control instead of surrendering to God?
What “ultimatum” is God placing before me today?
Am I ready to say, “Here I am, send me”?
Talk 3 – Born Legacy (Speaker: David Graham)
To close the retreat, David returned with a message of encouragement and vision: How will you live a life that lasts? Using passages like Mark 4:40, Matthew 5:16, and Romans 6, he explored what it means to walk in faith even when we’re afraid, and how everyday obedience can build a powerful legacy.
He reminded us that the Christian life isn’t about perfection, it’s about presence: staying close to God through Scripture, prayer, and community. He challenged us to take small steps of faith, share our testimonies, and live in a way that makes the Gospel visible to others.
David also contrasted the difference between life with and without Christ, spiritually dead versus spiritually alive, enslaved by sin versus free in grace, anxious and aimless versus peaceful and purposeful. Our legacy begins not with grand gestures, but with ordinary faithfulness that points people to Jesus.
Reflection Questions:
What fears are holding me back from following God’s call?
How am I building an evangelistic lifestyle in my everyday life?
What kind of legacy do I want to leave?
Final Thoughts
From worship to workshops, prayer to play, GetSet 2025 offered more than just a break from routine, it was a divine reset. A place to remember that we are God’s handiwork, created with intention, called with purpose, and sent to make a difference.
