Meet La Comunidad El Camino

La Comunidad El Camino: A Catholic Covenant Community

El Camino Community is a covenant community established in Westfield Mass. Our members are laymen and women, primarily married couples with their children. We gather to share God’s love and to be formed by his word.

Our beginning initiated back in the early 1980’s with a missionary group called Misiones Hispanoamericanas. Our community joined the Sword of the Spirit in 1996, and with God’s blessing we became an underway B community this past September.

Although our community has been predominantly Puerto Rican, we have been enriched with brethren from South and Central America. Some of the things that have characterized us are our sense of hospitality, our spirituality, and service to our local parishes and Diocese. Even though we are a small community, we have had an impact by providing retreats outside of our area to include Puerto Rico and Toronto Canada. We have held an annual men’s breakfast for the last 40 years where we have had up to 175 men participate and gather to praise and worship, fellowship and share God’s word. We also have an annual community camping trip where we gather to share with other families.

Our community has also been blessed by having three permanent deacons, and one of the deacons has a son who is a diocesan priest. We have started a Family Group called Faith and Hope where we share short spiritual and practical talks on family life. We are addressing areas regarding raising children for Christ, husband and wife relationships, communication, etc.

We are inviting people who are not members of El Camino to come share, learn, fellowship and participate with us. The main goal is evangelistic in nature. As missionary disciples, this is our call, to love and serve the Lord.

We are convinced that being a covenant community will help us live our way of life, and as Christians together we will be able to continue to build a bulwark to help us achieve our call to be a community of disciples on mission.
